CRITICAL DANGER BY 2030
The Green Party of South Africa believes that farmers are the most important remedy against catastrophic climate change, de-oxygenation of the sea by 2030 (followed shortly after by shortage of oxygen in the atmosphere), emptying of all world aquifers by 2050, and extinction of flying insects worldwide.

DANGER – NO LIFE IN MOST OF THE OCEAN BY 2030 AND A GROWING SHORTAGE OF OXYGEN IN THE AIR.
A thirty year peer reviewed scientific study of diminishing oxygen levels in the sea completed and released in March 2016 said that –
“At the present trajectory of diminishing oxygen levels in the sea, large tracts of the oceans of the world will have too little oxygen to sustain life by 2030”.
The phytoplankton also make most of our oxygen and so by 2030 we may be gasping for breath and dying.
All over the world the news seems to have finally caught on that we may have only 11 YEARS LEFT. These headlines caused nearly 2 million school children world wide on March 15th to protest to government.
It is the reason for the Extinction Rebellion demonstrations happening now. They are fighting for our lives – and farmers can help the most!
WHAT HAS HAPPENED -The diminishing oxygen levels of the sea are caused by the declining phytoplankton ( small microscopic plants in the sea which are responsible for making all the oxygen in the sea and 50 – 65% of all oxygen, atmospheric or dissolved.)
They are dying because the oceans have become too hot, too acid too full of chemicals and plastic and nutrients can’t easily reach the surface.
- The increased heat which is being absorbed by the sea – TOO WARM
- Too thick a layer of warm water. Nutrients cannot easily well up from the deep.- NOT ENOUGH NUTRIENTS
- The increased CO2 dissolving in the seawater makes weak carbonic acid which is made when excess CO2 dissolves in the sea and destroys the shells and exoskeletons of shelled sea life. TOO ACID
- Too many chemicals. 80% of every chemical you ever use ends up in the ocean and poisons the sea life. TOO TOXIC
- Plastic in the ocean reduces sunlight penetration and destroys animals which are essential for sustaining the marine eco-system
If the planet cools enough fast enough, the sea may cool and the phytoplankton in the sea, which are at present dying so fast, may once again thrive and resume making oxygen before all the sea life has died.
THIS IS WHERE FARMERS CAN BE KEY IN SAVING OXYGEN BREATHING LIFE ON EARTH
The main gases which are overheating the planet are –
CO2 – The only way to take it out of the air is to increase vegetation and biomass. C The Carbon goes into the biomass, O2 The oxygen escapes into the air.
METHANE – which is 26 times more global warming than CO2 dissipates in 8.3 years
NITROUS OXIDE (230 times worse than CO2),
BLACK CARBON – from bush fires (is over 500 times worse than CO2)
HOW TO REMOVE THE GASES FROM CIRCULATION –
CO2 Two fast methods of removing it that only farmers can do.
- Increase the biomass in the soil by keeping the soil covered with vegetation at all times to feed microbes in the soil.
- Use grazing animals in huge herds that graze over wide areas on a planned rotation i.e. no fields.
METHANE Instead of Battery farming which causes a lot of methane,a transition to free range animals so that manure becomes biomass in the soil instead of atmospheric methane. Also preventing veld fires and burning rubbish which have caused methane to escalate.
NITROUS OXIDE Stop the use of nitrogen compounds ( fertilisers) which are very unstable, so unstable that at least 10% of nitrogen fertilisers oxidise and forms nitric oxide. ( 230 times denser than CO2)
BLACK CARBON Never burn vegetation. Black carbon from fires, in Africa especially, is one of the most serious of all green house gases. Vegetation makes better microbe food than ash.
PREVENTING RADIATION FROM BARE SOIL Keeping soil covered at all times not only cools the soil for the microbes but also the planet.
Maintaining soil cover at all times has numerous benefits: Improved absorption and retention of water, protection of soil life, retention of fertility and increased productivity. A healthy soil Increases the health of the soils, plants, animals and us
HIGH MICROBE BIOMASS iN SOIL MAKES FERTILE SOIL THAT RETAINS WATER AND COOLS THE PLANET
Weed killers are killing our microbes, poisoning our water and have been linked to dementia and autism ( 1 child in 4000 were autistic in the 1990s . Then Glyposphates in weed killers were introduced and now 1 in 26 is autistic and estimated to get to 1 child in 3 by 2035. Glyposphates also cause food intolerances in our children and leaky gut syndrome in our cattle which kills approximately 30% of cattle and causes cows to give still birth.
See Zach Bush on persistent Glyposphates ( Round up) on the deadly effect of Roundup on cattle, and how it has made an epidemic of autism, neuro diseases like Parkinsons, and Alzheimers, cancer and food disorders.

ANIMALS USED FOR ECOSYSTEM SERVICES THEN MEAT ONLY AT THE NATURAL END OF THEIR LIVES.
We are seeking farmers who will
- Use planned grazing of VERY large herds through huge areas. The herd will move on through large areas of land with the purpose of allowing the animals to poop and pee and eat 2/3 of the good grazing but pass onwards, not coming back to that area until the veld has re-established. This mimics the natural system of game movement before boundaries were established.
- Put different farmers herds together into one big herd ( to be like the huge herds of wildlife that used to keep the grasslands and scrublands healthy).
- Take down their boundary fences. (The poles can still demarcate territory.).
- You will be paid monthly rent for each animal for the ecosystem services they will perform to make it more lucrative to leave the animal alive than to kill it for meat. This meat will be healthy.
- When an animal dies in the veld of natural causes, there are no stress hormones in the meat. The stress hormones in the meat change the taste but more importantly are believed to be the cause of increased violence in meat-eating men.
- Meat which has lived to the end of its days without stress is very tasty and contains no pesticides, antibiotics and has therefore not made a major negative impact on our water supply.
- In addition, farmers will sell meat at the end of it’s life without any real input costs. No more animal transport costs. On a farm, manure is a resource. In the city, it is a waste problem.
- To make the wildlife abundant so that they too can join in the restoration of ecosystems, remove all gin traps and other traps, so that the top predators can fulfil their role and restore the balance of the ecosystem. See “Wolves reintroduction to Yellowstone National Park” film.
Marbled meat is becoming very popular in Sweden, because of its taste which we think is due to the lack of chemicals, or stress and the excellent source of the correct food.
KEEPING SOIL COVERED AT ALL TIMES.
In addition, we would like farmers to stop ploughing and to adopt a minimum tillage system keeping the soil covered with vegetation at all times.
DO NOT WEED
We need to reconsider what we think of as weeds.
Do not remove weeds. Weeds are pioneering plants for degraded soils. Weeds are efficient at restoring soils by drawing carbon out of the CO2 in the atmosphere and sequestering it in the soil. Many weeds are also nitrogen fixing.
Weeds are a solution, not a problem.
You need weeds or any plants to hold the soil from washing or blowing away, shade the soil, then when cut to become mulch and provide food for the microbes. Only when absolutely ready to plant a crop, cut the weed and leave it lying on the ground to shade and later provide food for microbes. The microbes in the root bowl of the weed will then move across to feed the baby plant.
DO NOT USE CHEMICAL FERTILISERS AND POISONS.
Microbes are the basis of the soil’s health and fertility, the plants health and our health. Poisons, chemical fertilisers (which the chemical companies persuade us to use} kill the microbes. Microgro and other similar products (bottled extra microbes) can also be added to further increase the soil biomass. All farmers who ever use microbes to increase soil fertility and nourish their plants, never revert to chemical fertilisers and, as the fertility and the organic content of the soil increase, the yields and the health of the plants do and the ability of the soil to retain water increases.
Consider that you are basically a farmer of micro-biotic life in the soil and in the guts of your animals and your whole job is to feed them, keep the soil covered so as not to let the microbes be exposed to heat and intense cold,
AQUIFERS WATER IS SUCKED UP INTO THE ATMOSPHERE BY LEAVING SOIL BARE
When soil is bare, the groundwater that is always coming up from the groundwater by capillary action in the soil, vaporises about 2 meters below the soil surface and escapes into the atmosphere. So a bare field is like a huge field sized straw sucking water out of the ground into the atmosphere.
The covering shades the ground and prevents the capillary water from evaporating. It also allows the capillary water from below to come to the surface to be used by any plants you may have planted.
Microbes, when conditions are ideal, grow very rapidly and take carbon out of the atmosphere to create biomass. The more microbes and soil life there is, the less CO2 is in the atmosphere. This cools the planet.
Also, as the desertification reverses and the vegetation cover increases, the heat radiated back from the bare soil will stop.
In addition, the chemicals being used in farming today are killing not only the soils, but, through poisoning the aquifers and rivers, the fish, the cattle and us.
RESTORATION OF ECOSYSTEMS
Watch “Green Gold” movie by John Liu showing how within 4 years 10 million hectares of Gobi desert in China was converted into lush vegetation with rivers and waterfalls.
Many of you own degraded or desertified areas on your farm. We propose that you offer to Brave Green World that you will allow a trained community who will be well paid by government (if we get a green voice in Western Cape Government) or our Green Fund (that we will set up for this purpose) carry out the program as laid out in Green Gold to restore your farm to a highly vegetated non toxic water catchment area. They will construct a sustainable village with circular system of sewerage using the Aquatron (see it on www.motherchannel.com), solar energy and water from air to water machines..
The effect of this on your water supply is extraordinary and is sustainable.
Reversing global warming largely by hugely increasing biomass in the soil and on the land is the most important thing we can do to reverse global warming.
You decide to never leave soils bare, do minimum tillage, nurture microbe life in the soil by feeding with vegetation and use Microgro instead of poisons and fertilisers.
You do everything within your power to never have bush fires. You never cut down alleged aliens vegetation or at least not without planting five indigenous for every alien removed, and never ever clear cut trees.
You will have increasingly fertile, water- retaining soils on your farm growing organic foods with little input costs.
You take down your boundary fences to encourage movement of wildlife and domestic herds. You remove all traps and look after your wildlife. Huge herds tended by herders with dogs do not have high stock losses and the balance of nature will soon re-establish once you protect your top predators from traps or hunting.
Your herds will form part of huge herds that graze partly on your farm but over a wide area as wildlife herds once did. You will be paid rent for these animals while they are alive and they will never travel to an abattoir but become healthy marbled meat once they have died.
The trained communities that live in a village they create at a place designated by you will work on the Green Gold program at no cost to you. They will restore the ecological potential of the farm by 1) contour swales to channel storm water into the soil and the aquifers, 2) trees planted in high areas to draw capillary water to the surface and terraces to restore water catchment systems. 3) The communities will also remove traps and maintain firebreaks.
The communities that restore the ecosystems on your farm will be paid for by the green fund or the government. They will be completely independent for solar electricity, air to water and sewerage and if you wish can do the same for your staff and you.
This is true custodianship of land which we believe could and should replace ownership. Land should own itself or it should be owned by our Natural Heritage Trust. Nothing should ever be owned by the State.
Land ownership, which you have now should become custodianship rights which you can sell. But if a person poisons and leaves bare their soils, allows fire and overgrazes and damages the wildlife their custodianship rights could be terminated and although they could continue to live in the farm house, others can take over the responsibility of caring for the land .
What is key is that, if we can increase soil biomass and vegetation fast enough and over a large enough area of land, our chances improve of avoiding the predicted disasters, which is why the Green Party of South Africa, who understands the seriousness of our situation are happy to arrange to pay you for ecosystem services.
